Divisional Series Goes the Distance, Boston Prevails
Thursday, October 16th, 1969
The joy and relief on the faces of the Boston Red Sox players was obvious as they celebrated their Divisional Series win over the Arizona Diamondbacks.
"In a series like this, the smallest thing can make the difference in how it turns out," said Boston first baseman Dale Long, shortly after the 8-2 win that clinched the series 4-3. "We're happy we did what it takes to get it done."
The team is now off to the League Championship Series.
Long won series MVP honors on the strength of his .379 batting average during the series. He also had a .400 on-base percentage and 0 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The Boston Red Sox will play against the New York Mets in the next round. New York won their series against the Baltimore Orioles 4 games to 2. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
