New York Takes Divisional Series
Wednesday, October 15th, 1969
Kirby Puckett sparked his New York Mets past the pesky Baltimore Orioles in a closely-contested Divisional Series.
New York topped Baltimore 4-0 at Shea Stadium to decide the series, 4-2
For his efforts, Puckett was rewarded with the series MVP trophy for his .481 batting average, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored.
"You never want to leave anything on the field," Puckett said. "You never want to miss a play of defense you could have made, or give up an extra base you could have gotten, because in a series this tight you never know what you'll need to win."
The New York Mets don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Arizona Diamondbacks - Boston Red Sox series. Arizona leads the series 3 games to 2. The League Championship Series schedule will be announced after the Divisional Series finishes.
