Big Day by Berry Ignites Brewers Win
|
With center fielder Ken Berry leading the charge, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Detroit Tigers, 13-4, at County Stadium. Berry, who signed a 2-year contract worth $22,740,000 on 01/16/1969, went 4-5 with 4 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Milwaukee reliever Paul Wagner picked up the win, upping his record to 4-10. Ron Darling took the loss. Even with the win, the Brewers have a dismal 44-82 record.
Matt Mangini had a chance to do some damage in the top of the eighth. With Detroit trailing 10-3, Detroit had the bases loaded. Mangini hit a sacrifice fly. But it was not enough. Detroit would not finish the comeback.
