Diamondbacks Mow Down Red Sox, 9-2
|
Arizona first baseman Eddie Mathews played a vital role in his team's 9-2 triumph over Boston. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Arizona. Arizona reliever Ismael Valdez picked up the win, upping his record to 3-3. Ron Piche absorbed the loss. The Diamondbacks bumped their record to 68-55 with this latest triumph.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and no one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when left fielder Charlie Blackmon, who finished 5th in the NL in OPS with .864 in 1960, drew a walk. The Diamondbacks went on to win.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Mathews said after the game.
