Victory Over Royals Takes Pittsburgh to 73-48
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Kansas City Royals, 5-0, in National League action at Kauffman Stadium, with Pittsburgh pitcher James Paxton named player of the game. At 73-48, the Pirates are currently second in the National League Right.

In the bottom of the seventh, Josh Bard stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Royals were trailing 5-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Gene Bearden made a terrific pitch and Bard struck out. Gone was the dream of a Kansas City comeback.
