Yankees Need Extras to Top Tigers
|
The Bronx Yankees picked up a win at Tiger Stadium, knocking off the Detroit Tigers, 5-3. Starting pitcher Matt Young played a key role in the triumph. The Yankees bumped their record to 58-54 with this latest triumph.
It could have been a different outcome for Bronx, had it not been for Whitey Wietelmann, the slick-fielding shortstop . Wietelmann contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the 16th inning to put Bronx up, 5-3.
In postgame remarks, Wietelmann simply said: "Here's to a great win!"
