Cardinals Win at Miami, 4-1
|
The St. Louis Cardinals topped the Miami Marlins, 4-1, in American League action at Turner Field. The player of the game was St. Louis pitcher Jack Hallett. Hallett got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 6 hits and walked 5 over 6.2 innings. Hallett allowed 1 earned run. Hal Kelleher recorded his 3rd save for St. Louis.
The Cardinals benefited from a costly error in the top of the fifth. With Wade Boggs at bat and St. Louis leading 2-1, the Miami miscue allowed St. Louis to plate 1 and take the lead, 3-1.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Hallett.
The Marlins drop to 4-7 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1969 season.
