Tigers Sneak Past Pirates, 5-4
|
The inspired effort of Pittsburgh first baseman Tony Solaita was not enough to prevent a 5-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers. Solaita went 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Steve Cishek notched his 3rd save in 3 chances. After today's action, Detroit sits at 41-64, while Pittsburgh falls to 63-41.
Freddie Freeman, who is tied for 10th in the NL in total bases with 184, aided the Detroit cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman drove in one run.
"We take it day by day here," said Freeman, "and today was a good one for us."
