Mets Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers got a sterling performance from pitcher John D'Acquisto, but the Mets still prevailed, 3-2. D'Acquisto was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Nick Willhite got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1 innings. New York goes to 7-4 with the win.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Kevin Baez came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Sherman Corbett, he hit a first pitch curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 3-2.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Baez.
