|
The South Side White Sox got their 1969 season off and running with a win over the Kansas City Royals at Comisky Park. The final score was 5-4. South Side pitcher Brad Penny was named player of the game.
Kirby Puckett, who finished 2nd in the NL in triples with 12 in 1961, chipped in for South Side with a solo home run in the bottom of the 12th. For the game, the center fielder had 2 hits in 6 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 RBI.
"We fed off the energy of the crowd at the end," Puckett said.
