Mets Jolt Red Sox with Late Rally
|
Fenway Park was the site of an exciting ballgame between the New York Mets and the Boston Red Sox.
Boston got a terrific performance from pitcher Shawn Estes, but it wasn't enough to beat the New York Mets. New York won the Fenway Park contest, 5-4. Estes was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Tom Butters got the save, his 9th in 15 chances.
New York used the bat of Eric Karros to get the win. The first baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mets ahead, 5-4. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
New York is now 61-38, 9 games up in the American League Up.
