Dodgers Continue Skid Thanks to Hebner, Pirates
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates downed the Brooklyn Dodgers, 10-8, at Ebbets Field. The Pirates were led by Richie Hebner, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2. Randy Wolf got the win, improving to 9-6. He worked 7.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Darren Holmes earned his 10th save in 13 chances.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Willard Marshall, the top prospect . Marshall contributed a 2-run single in the top of the first inning to put Pittsburgh up, 2-0.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Hebner.
The current losing streak for Brooklyn has reached 5 games.
