Colorado left fielder Jim Edmonds had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 7-6, to Boston at Fenway Park. Edmonds went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Reliever Doug Waechter picked up the win. His record improves to 4-5. Ben Sheets took the loss. Pedro J Martinez converted his 11th save in 14 tries.

Dale Long, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 1967 draft, aided the Boston cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third. For the game, the first baseman was 1-4.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Long told the Boston Daily News.
