Benefiting from Bob Elliott's productive game, the New York Mets downed the Kansas City Royals, 7-3. Elliott slugged 2 home runs for the Mets. New York reliever Vincent Velasquez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Sheldon Burnside took the loss.

Marlon Byrd hit a 2-run triple off Sheldon Burnside in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Mets in front, 4-2. Byrd had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
