Yankees Turn Back Milwaukee, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring clash between Bronx and Milwaukee, pitcher Kerry Wood was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for Bronx in the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Wood, now 6-8. He tossed 5 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 6. Don Mossi, credited with the save, is now 18 for 20 in save opportunities.
The Yankees got a big at-bat from catcher Greg O'Halloran. For the game, O'Halloran went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Bronx a 3-1 lead.
"Not to be Captain Obvious," said Milwaukee manager Michael Ejercito, "but we need to push more runs across the plate."
Milwaukee now has a 5-game losing streak.
