Victory Over Yankees Takes Colorado to 59-36
The Bronx Yankees went down to defeat to Mike Boddicker and his Colorado teammates. The final score was 3-2 in favor of the Rockies. Boddicker, now 8-6, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs. Daniel Bard got the save, his 11th in 17 chances.

A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the third inning. That's when third baseman Steve R Ontiveros, who finished 2nd in the NL in doubles with 33 in 1961, got hit by a pitch. The Rockies went on to win.

"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Bronx manager Cley Twigg. "The effort was great."

The first-place Rockies, at 59-36, now lead their division by 2½ games.
