Mets Walk It Off for 58th Win of Season
|
Montreal got a terrific game from left fielder Al L Martin. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to New York, 7-6. Martin was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. New York improves to 58-36 with the win. They lead their division by 8½ games.
Kirby Puckett was the walk-off hero for New York. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Mets center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I like our mindset right now," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
