Dodgers Score Late, Upend Marlins, 5-3
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers took Miami pitcher Jack Fisher's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Turner Field. The final score had Brooklyn getting past the Marlins, 5-3. Fisher went 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 6. Greg Mathews got the win, improving to 5-9. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 10 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 2 and walking 4. Brooklyn is now riding a 3-game win streak.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Kolten Wong came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Miami pitcher Nick Willhite, he hit a 1-1 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Brooklyn on top, 5-3.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Wong told the Brooklyn Gazette.
