Mets Prevail, 2-1, Over Brooklyn
|
Brooklyn pitcher Greg Mathews gave the Mets all they could handle, but in the end, New York left Shea Stadium with a 2-1 win. Mathews allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits over 8 innings. Chad Gaudin converted his 4th save in 6 tries. New York goes to 53-35. The win puts them 7½ games up in their division.
The Mets got a big at-bat from right fielder Carl Furillo. For the game, Furillo went 1-3 with a double. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 5th double of the season gave New York a 2-1 lead.
"I was a little disappointed," said Brooklyn manager Jason Spiegel. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
