Montreal pitcher Mike L Griffin did his part in helping his team beat the Detroit Tigers, 3-2. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Griffin got the win, improving to 6-3. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Griffin allowed 2 earned runs. Pat Caraway earned his 1st save in 3 chances.
Montreal used the timely hitting of Willie Aikens to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Expos on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Montreal manager Chuck Glidden. "It's usually not just one thing."
Montreal has now won 5 in a row.
