Victory Over Cubs Takes Pittsburgh to 51-32
|
The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-2, in National League action at Wrigley Field, with Pittsburgh pitcher Hal Brown named player of the game. The Pirates bumped their record to 51-32 with this latest triumph.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Glenn Beckert to capture the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Pirates on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
Beckert attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
