The Pittsburgh Pirates scored a 4-3 win versus the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. Pittsburgh pitcher James Paxton nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Pittsburgh reliever Ricky Bottalico picked up the win, upping his record to 4-3. Pedro Feliciano shouldered the loss. Stan Thomas earned his 3rd save in 3 chances.
Pittsburgh needed the clutch hitting of Johnny Groth to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pirates on top, 4-3. For the game, Groth had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Paxton.
The Pirates have an impressive 50-31 record.
