Mets Solve Marlins, 5-2
|
New York starter Dick Donovan pitched effectively against the Miami Marlins at Turner Field. The right-hander led his team to a 5-2 win. Al Hrabosky notched his 9th save in 12 chances. New York goes to 46-33. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.
New York used the timely hitting of Lamar Johnson to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mets on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Donovan. "Successful pitchers do it."
