The Detroit Tigers had no problem beating the New York Mets, 12-2, at Tiger Stadium. Walt Moryn led the way. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2 for Detroit. Detroit reliever Jay Howell picked up the win, upping his record to 9-1. Clise Dudley took the loss. Stan Belinda was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 1 of 3 save opportunities.

The Tigers got a big at-bat from center fielder Charlie Blackmon. For the game, Blackmon went 3 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3.
