Tigers Stymie New York, Take 5-1 Win
|
The New York Mets got a superb performance from third baseman Phil B Clark. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Detroit. The Tigers won the game, 5-1. In spite of the loss, Clark was named the player of the game. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Detroit has now won 3 in a row.
Frank Howard put Detroit in front, 3-0, when he took John Mitchell downtown. His 2-run home run came with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. It was his 7th home run of the season.
"It feels good to get this one," Howard told the Detroit Chronicle.
