Colorado catcher Biff Pocoroba had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Pocoroba went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2, even as Brooklyn beat the Rockies, 7-6. Pocoroba was named the player of the game despite the loss. The Dodgers saw their win-loss record go to 33-40. At the same time, the Rockies fell to 46-28.

Willie Mays was the walk-off hero for Brooklyn. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Dodgers right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

"We'll take this win and move on," said Mays.
