Marlins Bridle Red Sox, 1-0
|
The Boston Red Sox wasted an inspired, 5.2-inning effort from starter Shawn Estes, falling 1-0 to the Miami Marlins at Fenway Park. Miami reliever Brad Bergesen picked up the win, upping his record to 8-4. Shawn Estes absorbed the loss. Warren Brusstar was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 7 of 9 save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Miami, had it not been for Andre Thornton, the 23-year old first baseman . Thornton contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the first inning to put Miami up, 1-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Thornton said after the game.
Boston has now lost 4 consecutive games.
