Hot Start Continues for Cubs
|
Chicago and Montreal duked it out at La Stade Olympique and the Cubs came out victorious.
The Chicago Cubs got a strong performance from pitcher Fritz Peterson, who stymied the Montreal offense en route to a 5-2 win at La Stade Olympique. In 7.1 innings, Peterson surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the second, with the game tied, Jake Smolinski was at the plate when Chicago scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the Cubs to go in front, 2-0.
"We take it day by day here," said Smolinski, "and today was a good one for us."
The Cubs raised their record to 5-2.
