Razor-Sharp Peterson Blanks South Side
|
The Chicago Cubs shut out the South Side White Sox 2-0 today behind the strong pitching of Fritz Peterson. Peterson surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 4.
Following the last out, Peterson appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for South Side manager Ricky Sanford, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Peterson's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The White Sox skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Cubs press conference, Peterson confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Peterson said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Chicago manager Matt Ida added.
This year Peterson has a 6-2 record with a 1.84 ERA.
