The Colorado Rockies opened their 1969 season with a disappointing 4-1 loss to the Detroit Tigers at Astrodome. Catcher Jody Davis was a big part of the win for Detroit. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
It could have been a different outcome for Detroit, had it not been for Charlie Blackmon, the 1960 Rookie of the Year Award winner . Blackmon contributed a 2-run single in the top of the second inning to put Detroit up, 2-0.
"I'm proud to be a part of what we've got going on here," Blackmon told the Detroit Chronicle. "It's a great group and we're happy with the win."
