Red Sox Fall Short at Brooklyn
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers topped the Boston Red Sox, 2-1, in American League action at Ebbets Field. The player of the game was Brooklyn pitcher and Avon, Ohio native Jimmie Keenan. Dick Fowler picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-7. Doug Waechter was tagged with the loss. After today's action, Brooklyn sits at 30-32, while Boston falls to 31-32.
Brooklyn took a 2-1 lead on Willie Mays's 77th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Mays hit in the bottom of the 11th, left Boston pitcher Stan Wall shaking his head.
Keenan told the Brooklyn Gazette: "I was born for the big stage."
