|
Behind a solid performance from shortstop Ed Romero, the New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox, 5-4. Romero went 2 for 3 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Mets. The winner was Al Hrabosky in relief. His record improves to 4-3. Pedro J Martinez took the loss. New York is now 36-24, 5 games up in the American League Up.
Bob Elliott made it 5-4 in favor of New York when he delivered a run-scoring single. It came with two out in the top of the 12th. The Mets went on to win.
"Exciting game to play in," said Romero. "Getting the win makes it even better."
