Red Sox Score Late, Stun Mets, 3-1
The New York Mets got a superb performance from pitcher John Mitchell. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Boston. The Red Sox won the game, 3-1. In spite of the loss, Mitchell was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The win was George Mohart's in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Al Hrabosky took the loss for New York. The Red Sox bumped their record to 30-29 with this latest triumph.

Steve Braun was the walk-off hero for Boston. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Red Sox designated hitter hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Braun told the Boston Daily News.
