Chicago turned a good effort from starter Lary Sorensen into a win over the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field. The final score was 4-1. Sorensen went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 4-5. Chris Leroux earned the save, his 8th.

It could have been a different outcome for Chicago, had it not been for Joe Lahoud, the 1968 NL home run champion . Lahoud contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Chicago up, 1-0.

"We had a good game plan," Sorensen said, "and we were able to execute it."

The Cubs have an impressive 37-19 record.
