Pirates Get Road Win, 6-2
|
Pittsburgh pitcher Randy Wolf did his part in helping his team beat the Boston Red Sox, 6-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Wolf, now 6-3, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. Ricky Bottalico earned the save, his 4th, for the Pirates.
Pittsburgh used the timely hitting of Tony Conigliaro to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the first inning to put the Pirates on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Conigliaro. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
Pittsburgh goes to 34-23. The win puts them 3 games up in their division.
