Cardinals Continue Skid Thanks to Hershberger, Brewers
|
The Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-7, at Busch Stadium. Willard Hershberger was recognized as player of the game for his performance. He was 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The 35-year old catcher was a menace to St. Louis all day. Jim Kaat was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 2 walks and 1 strikeout. The Cardinals, now 25-31, have lost 6 straight.
It could have been a different outcome for Milwaukee, had it not been for Hersh Martin, the 32-year old left fielder . Martin contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Milwaukee up, 6-4.
"My job is to go out and play as hard as I can for the Brewers," said Martin.
