Orioles Lose to Red Sox, 5-2
|
The Boston Red Sox beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-2, at Camden Yards. The Red Sox got a fine performance from second baseman Vern Stephens, who captured player of the game honors. He slugged 2 home runs. The winner was Clayton Richard, who threw 91 pitches over 7.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits. Dutch Kemner got the save, the 7th for him this season.
Stephens had a key at-bat for Boston early in the game. With the bases empty, he hit a solo home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and gave Boston an early 1-0 lead.
Stephens called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The Red Sox bumped their record to 27-25 with this latest triumph.
