Mets Trip Marlins in Extras
|
The 1969 season did not get off to quite the start the Miami Marlins had hoped, with an opening day loss to the New York Mets at Turner Field. The final score was 3-2. Starting Pitcher Mickey Haefner was named player of the game for New York.
New York needed the clutch hitting of Dwight Evans to notch the win. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the top of the 13th inning to put the Mets on top, 3-2. For the game, Evans had 1 home run and 2 singles in 6 at-bats.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Evans told the New York Observer.
