Yankees Lose, 5-2, at Fenway Park
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the Bronx Yankees by the score of 5-2, with the largest share of the credit going to second baseman Vern Stephens. Stephens was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Red Sox. The save went to Dutch Kemner, his 6th this season. The second-place Red Sox improved to 24-23.
Stephens had a game-changing double in the bottom of the sixth. On a 0-2 sinker from Jim Hickey, he banged a 2-run double to right, giving the Red Sox a 3-2 lead. It was the 5th double of the year for Stephens.
"We did a lot of things right," said Stephens.
