Cardinals Top Red Sox to Even Record
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the Boston Red Sox, 5-3. On the mound for St. Louis was right-hander Ed Correa, who played a pivotal role in the win. Getting the save was Hal Kelleher, his 7th. The Cardinals bumped their record to 21-21 with this latest triumph.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from third baseman Edgardo Alfonzo. For the game, Alfonzo was 1 for 4. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 39th hit of the season gave St. Louis a 3-2 lead.
In postgame comments, Alfonzo told the St. Louis Gazette: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
