The rain at PNC Park did not keep Pittsburgh and Kansas City from finishing their game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates topped the Kansas City Royals, 6-3, in National League action at PNC Park. The player of the game was Pittsburgh pitcher James Paxton. Paxton, now 5-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 9, walking 3, and allowing 2 earned runs.

Glenn Beckert had a big 2-run triple for the Pirates in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Pittsburgh leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he got a fastball from Bob Sebra and stroked the triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pirates ahead, 4-1.
