Red Sox Turn Back Arizona, 5-3
|
Boston right fielder Jayson Werth was a significant contributor in his team's 5-3 triumph over the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for Boston. Sean West picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-2. He struck out 3 in 6 innings. Pedro J Martinez earned the save, his 4th, for the Red Sox.
Adam C Eaton had a big 2-run single for the Red Sox in the bottom of the third inning. With Boston leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Clay Buchholz and stroked the single to center. It was his 21st hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Boston manager Daniel Hornbaker.
Boston is first in the American League Down with a record of 21-19.
