Dodgers Deal Mets Painful Loss
|
Brooklyn beat New York at Ebbets Field, escaping with a 5-4 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Kevin Bell, who earned player of the game honors. He went 4 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Brooklyn reliever Sherman Corbett picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tim Stoddard was saddled with the loss. Brooklyn is third in the American League Down with a record of 16-22.
Brooklyn took a 5-4 lead on Daniel Ortmeier's 30th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Ortmeier hit in the bottom of the tenth, left New York pitcher Cam Bedrosian shaking his head.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Ortmeier told a Brooklyn Gazette reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
