Dodgers Subdue Kansas City, 3-2
|
The Brooklyn Dodgers got a strong performance from pitcher Jimmie Keenan, who stymied the Kansas City offense en route to a 3-2 win at Ebbets Field. Keenan went 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 9. His record improves to 3-2. The win puts the Dodgers at 15-22, while the Royals drop to 17-21.
Willie Mays, who finished 2nd in the AL in wins above replacement with 7.2 in 1965, chipped in for Brooklyn with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the right fielder had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 runs batted in.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Brooklyn manager Jason Spiegel. "Our pregame was pretty good."
