Extra-Inning Win by Tigers over Yankees
|
Despite a great performance by Bronx third baseman Mike Schmidt, the Detroit Tigers defeated the Yankees by the score of 10-5 at Yankee Stadium I. Schmidt went 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times. The Tigers raised their record to 16-21.
The result might have been different for Detroit, had it not been for Jerry Turner. The designated hitter produced a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Tigers ahead, 6-5. For the game, Turner had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"There's no quit in this team," said Tigers manager Brian Rodgers.
