The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the New York Mets, 4-3, in National League action at Shea Stadium, with Pittsburgh pitcher James Paxton named player of the game. At 20-16, the Pirates find themselves in first place in the National League Right.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Ted Kluszewski, the seven-time All-Star . Kluszewski contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the 12th inning to put Pittsburgh up, 4-3.
"Chalk one up for the good guys," said Paxton. "I'm sure our fans enjoyed that win."
