Raucous Shea Stadium Crowd Propels Mets to 5-0 Victory; Series Tied at 3
|
The New York Mets and the Colorado Rockies will take the World Series to a decisive 7th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Mets shut out the Rockies 5-0 at Shea Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. New York left-hander Jimmie Keenan was named player of the game in the win after a strong outing in which he threw 6 innings of shutout ball.
In the bottom of the fifth, New York right fielder Bob Elliott had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and one out, Elliott stroked a bases-clearing triple to left-center. It made the score 4-0, New York. For the game, he went 2 for 3 with a triple and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"Nervous? No," said Keenan. "It was my time to shine."
Game 7 is set to be played tomorrow. The scheduled starters for the game are Glendon Rusch for Colorado and Dick Donovan for New York.
