Clark, New York Start World Series Strong with Home Win
|
The New York Mets started the World Series in style today, downing the visiting Colorado Rockies at Shea Stadium by a score of 8-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Mets third baseman Phil B Clark was named player of the game after he went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 times.
Marlon Byrd hit a 2-run double off Chris R Young in the bottom of the second, which put the Mets in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Byrd had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 3.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Shea Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Glendon Rusch for the Colorado Rockies and Jimmie Keenan for the the New York Mets.
