Game 5 was big. So was Jimmie Keenan.

The New York starter rose to the occasion at Fenway Park today, earning player of the game honors after leading the Mets to a crucial 3-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox. Keenan threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball as the Mets won on the road to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 League Championship Series.

New York left fielder Marlon Byrd contributed to the cause with a triple in the top of the fifth. For the game, Byrd went 2 for 4 with a triple. He scored 2 runs.

"The vibe's good," said New York manager Jamie Dagostini. "We've got to keep it going."

The next game is set to be played Saturday, October 25th, 1969 at Shea Stadium in New York. Slated to start are Clayton Richard for the Boston Red Sox and Matt Garza for the the New York Mets.
