League Championship Series Game 1 Victory for Keenan and New York
The New York Mets started the League Championship Series in style today, downing the visiting Boston Red Sox at Shea Stadium by a score of 5-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Mets left-hander Jimmie Keenan was named player of the game after he threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball.

Keenan, the New York left-hander, went 8 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 4 hits. He collected 6 strikeouts.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Keenan said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow in New York. The scheduled starters for the game are Clayton Richard for Boston and Matt Garza for New York.
